I. Fredholm</a>) eine bestimmte Klasse <a href="Linearer_Operator" title="Linearer Operator">linearer Operatoren</a>, die man „fast“ invertieren kann. Jedem Fredholm-Operator ordnet man eine <a href="Ganze_Zahl" title="Ganze Zahl">ganze Zahl</a> zu, diese wird <b>Fredholm-Index</b>, <b>analytischer Index</b> oder kurz <b>Index</b> genannt. Der Fredholm-Operator wird auch <b>Noether-Operator</b> nach dem Mathematiker <a href="Fritz_Noether" title="Fritz Noether">Fritz Noether</a> genannt. Schließlich gilt auch das Punctured Neighborhood Theorem für unbeschränkte Fredholm-Operatoren.
